The 2025 Electric Jeep Wagoneer S is Dark and Mysterious

Departing from the longstanding Wagoneer formula with electric attitude

Aside from the Jeep Wrangler, Compass, and Grand Cherokee, Jeeps just don’t look like Jeeps anymore, and that could good or bad depending on which side of the fence you’re on. Jeep prices are also up (what vehicles aren’t?), but the mere fact that a Grand Wagoneer’s base price is almost $93,000 shows that the brand has taken some big risks with its target market. That risk hasn’t exactly paid off yet.

Even though Jeep sales in 2023 were not as strong as the previous year, it’s not stopping the brand from doing some super-new stuff. Case in point: the recently revealed the all-electric 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S. It is in stealthy production form and looks very similar to the prototype that Jeep showed off last year. There are a lot of similarities, including not just the body shape but details like bisected front outboard vents, the body crease, the thin door handles, the large roof spoiler, and the hockey-stick D-pillar.

Other details include a branded faux grille, low-profile tires (not exactly true to Jeep’s rugged reputation), dark alloy rims, and Wagoneer lettering with an adjacent American flag. If you think Wagoneer S doesn’t look ready to hit the trail, you’d be right. It’s aimed more toward urban environments where an EV fits right in and those big rims won’t get chewed up on rocks and other natural detritus.

In what’s easily the coolest shot of the Wagoneer S, the big roof-mounted spoiler is shown (below). It’s very dramatic from this angle, and it adds a bit of visual drama to an otherwise smooth look. Parked just beneath the rear glass is a small lip spoiler and an attractive set of taillights that spans the entire width of the liftgate and wraps around the sides. The deep sculpting of the rear flanks is interesting. From what we can tell, they’re not vents, and the complex shape of the lower liftgate contrasts quite a bit with the rest of the vehicle.

From the photos, you can see that the interior is very polished and high-tech. There’s a lot going on in here that’s very consistent with the level of opulence inside the Grand Wagoneer. We count no fewer than four screens on the dash that include an instrument cluster with nav, an infotainment screen, a climate control screen, and a passenger screen. The top center screen shows off the premium McIntosh audio meters (that mate with the optional 19-speaker McIntosh system). It’s a lot of electronic real estate which seems to go hand-in-hand with high-tech EVs these days. Keeping your eyes on the road will be quite the challenge. Entertaining yourself will not be.

Inside the fancy cabin, you’ll also find a mildly squared-off steering wheel, adjustable ambient lighting elements, a rotary shift knob, and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain drive mode selector (Sand, Snow, Eco, Auto, and Sport modes). Squint your eyes at the photo below, and you’ll see a round button just below the window switches. That’s the door release button. Rather than pulling on something, they’re making you push a button that electronically deploys the doors. Radical, yes. Intuitive, no.

If you’re wondering about the Wagoneer S name and the EVs relationship to the Grand Wagoneer, there’s really no connection. The latter is a three-row, and the former is a two-row. They’re not the same size, either. The Grand Wagoneer is quite a bit larger, and the Wagoneer S errs on the side of sporty rather than cushy. We should know more about Jeep’s new EV in the coming months, including the powertrain, charging times, range, and price. We’re thinking the base price will be around $70k, which means it’s another pricey Jeep product. With EV sales currently suffering, it will be interesting to see what public reception is to this new chapter in the Jeep book.
